Artist Statement

Dancing Tango has been a part of my life since childhood. First, in the kitchen with my mom in rural Argentina, then classes, practicas, social dancing in Milongas first in La Plata, then Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the world. Then came performing in Milongas, theaters, T.V. shows, documentaries, and touring around the world. Dance has been an essential part of my life and development.

My studies of tango and choreography were with two of the most relevant and well known Maestros of Tango in the world, Carlos and Rosa Perez, who give me clear ideas about the roots of tango and its secrets, of maintaining tradition and innovation in art.

I have created several tango choreographies, most recently for a feature film called “The Vegas”, an Argentinean/Canadian coproduction shot in Buenos Aires.

For more than ten years I have taught tango classes in Buenos Aires, together with my partner Alison Murray, as well as with other invited dancers.

Intellectual aspects of the Tango, exploring the history-socio-political influences in Tango Music and Dance, as well as their cultural/social context, are an important part of my teaching.

I dance and teach a modern Tango Dance that combines tradition with the vanguard of new developments in the form, for example the incorporation of feminist ideas and gender non-specificity. Recently I have began to integrate digital technologies into my teaching practise.
