About the topic:

Some very popular and beautiful tangos, valses, and milongas were written by women.

Female musicians were almost completely excluded from tango orchestras in the first half of the 20ieth century (as well as from classical orchestras in many parts of the world). In my talk I’ll present two exceptions with interesting careers.

In contrast to musicians, female singers were quite popular in tango. Most of their recordings were tango canción, but we have also beautiful music for dancing. We don’t often hear female voices in milongas – I’ll present some fantastic songs that make dancers happy.

About Theresa:

Theresa from Munich (Germany) is a tango enthusiast since 25 years. She has started as DJ and organized milongas 15 years ago, and she has been travelling with her music in many parts of Europe. She has developed a teaching format “Listen and experience”, where dancers are invited to perceive in more detail the music that they have danced for hundreds of times, and where the music is embedded in a historical and social context.
